The importance of community service.

Volunteering is a way to gain a lot of skills that can be transferred into the workplace. By volunteering at a young age, individuals can readily see how they are helping the community and become accustomed to lending a hand. Not only that, but teens can benefit from volunteering by adding it to their resume when they are looking for a summer job. While there are many benefits of volunteering as a teen, here are just a few that stand out!

You help those who need it. This is the obvious benefit, right? As a volunteer, you directly impact how you help the community and your efforts do not go unnoticed. You have a great opportunity to give back in an area that is important to you, whether you choose to help out at a senior home, animal shelter, soup kitchen, or otherwise.

It is great for your mental and physical health. Volunteering often means you’re getting active, and so you benefit your physical health. Volunteering helps to boost self-confidence and happiness, too.

It teachers altruism. Selfishness is becoming the norm in today’s society, but volunteering helps to tackle it. Volunteering teaches people that there is life outside of themselves, and encourages compassion and action to help others.

Your social and networking skills improve. Volunteering can teach teens how to network and build a list of important contact. It can help to spark their passion and determine what they want to do in life, and knowing the right people can help. The people you volunteer with are also great candidates for writing recommendation letters because they have seen you respond to challenges first-hand.
